Be kind to one another, bond in friendship
Ecclesiastes 4:9–12)
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
True friendship is a rare and genuine bond established with another person. One you can share personal feelings and concerns with; relax and share moments of support and encouragement. There is nothing that fuels the flames of one’s heart then the gift of friendship.
It is the glue that holds neighborhoods, communities, groups, and our world of sinful humans together. It is far reaching, extending around the world, and its benefits can span the decades of anyone’s life and continue into eternity. I encourage everyone to be willing and ready to be a friend to others and to share their gift of kindness wherever they go.
Be prepared to cultivate your friendship, nourish it and protect it. Strengthen it with love, kindness, fellowship, and words of encouragement.
Remain forever vigilant and recognize that friendships can be polluted or damaged by a variety of harmful, “sinful”, and otherwise selfish attitudes and actions.
Over the years, I have discovered that friendship can be especially wholesome when you share God’s love in Jesus Christ with someone else. Such a sharing friendship will last forever. This is one salutary gift that can make a vast difference in the way we as humans relate to one another and to God as we make our way in this evil and sinful world.
In Christ our Lord,
